Mt. Cho Oyu Expedition

Mt. Cho Oyu with height 8188m from the sea level is the one of the 6th highest mountain in the world. This mountain is the westernmost major peak of the Khumbu sub-section of the Mahalangur Himalaya 20 km west of Mount Everest. The mountain stands on the China–Nepal border.

 In Tibetan language, Cho Oyu means Turquoise Goddess. Every year, majority of tourists visit Nepal to be a part of Mount Cho Oyu expedition. In this 42 days expedition, one can explore variations in culture and tradition of Nepal along with its heavenly beauty.

Detailed Itinerary

After arriving in Kathmandu(1350m), you will be welcomed by our office representative and transfer you to your hotel. Take your time to get refreshed and rest enough after hours of long journey to Kathmandu. Later you’ll be called to the hotel lobby to brief about your stay in Nepal.

The next day will be a day to look around the Kathmandu valley. You will need to stay in Kathmandu for the Tibet visa processing.  You can do the shopping around the city. The equipment needed for climbing will be checked by your guide. In the evening, you’ll be briefed about the expedition and all sorts of necessary information about the expedition.

You will be briefed about the expedition at Nepal Tourism Board and the final packing will be done. Get prepared for the next day travel.

You will need to drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi which lies at an altitude of 1550m. You will have an overnight in one of the lodge here.

The next day you will need to drive towards Rasuwagadhi and cross the border to Tibet from there. You will be driven to Kerung where you will be staying in one of the hotel there.

You will have a full day rest in Kerung after days of travel.

After a full day rest, you will be driven to Thingri. You will have an overnight in the guest house of Thingri.

After a long travel, you will have full day in Thingri to take rest.

After the rest, the next day, you will need to drive to Cho Oyu base camp. You will have an overnight here.

From the 10th day to 12th day, you will be staying at the base camp for the acclimatization and preparing loads to ABC.

You will need to climb up from the base camp to the intermediate camp of Cho Oyu.

The next day, you will need to reach Advance Base Camp which is at an altitude of 5600m.

You will need to stay at Advance base camp for two days. On the first day, you will have a puja ceremony. And rest of the days, you will have acclimatization and climbing preparation.

Your climbing period will start from the 16th day. You will be climbing to the peak within 37th day.

After the successful summit to the peak, you will need to get down to the base camp from the Adance base camp. And from the base camp, you will be driven to Thingri. You will have an overnight there.

Early morning, after having breakfast, you will be driven to Kerong border.

The next day, you will need to drive to the Nepal- Tibet border. After reaching there, you will be driven to Kathmandu.

You will have a full day rest in Kathmandu. You can even stroll around the Kathmandu valley and observe the cultural and heritage sites. In the evening you will need to pack your things for the next day flight.

The last day, you will be dropped to the Tribhuwan airport by our office representative or your guide.

  • Personal calls made through satellite phone subject to charges at US$ 3 per minute.
  • Personal insurance such as travel, accident, medical, emergency evacuation and lost luggage.
  • Applicable permit fees and customs charges, etc. for SAT phone US$ 1000.00, communication equipment and commercial filming US$ 20,000.00 payable to CTMA.
  • Expenses of personal nature such as drinks, laundry, postage, telephone and Email etc.
  • Applicable customs duty and import license fees for all expedition goods arriving in Nepal as air/road cargo.
  • Personal solar pack for charging heavy electronics (laptops, professional camera batteries etc ).
  • Tips/gratitude for cooks and climbing Sherpa at the end of the trip.
  • Any rescue cost or costs of early departure from the trip.
