Mt. Makalu Expedition
Mt. Makalu is one of the fifth highest mountains in the world with an altitude of 8485m located in the Mahalangur Himalayas 19 km of Mount Everest, on the border between Nepal and Tibet. This mountain is one of the most difficult mountains in the world to climb. This mountain is notorious for its steep pitches and knife-edged ridges that are completely open to the elements.
It is an expedition for energetic and adventurous person. This expedition is suitable to those who are in great health condition and love to enjoy the wonders of the Himalayas. Wide range of fascinating snow capped mountains along with the livelihood of locals living in the Himalayas can be explored in this 50 days expedition.
Detailed Itinerary

The itinerary is changeable and modifiable
After arriving in Kathmandu(1350m), you will be welcomed by our office representative and transfer you to the hotel. Take your time to get refreshed and rest enough after hours of long journey to Kathmandu. Later you’ll be called to the hotel lobby to brief about your stay in Nepal.
The next day will be a day to look around the Kathmandu valley. You can do the shopping around the city. The equipment needed for climbing will be checked by your guide. In the evening, you’ll be briefed about the expedition and all sorts of necessary information about the expedition.
You will be briefed about the expedition at Nepal Tourism Board and the final packing will be done. Get prepared for the next day travel.
You will have a fly to domestic airport of Lukla (2800m) from Kathmandu which takes about 35 minutes. Then you will need to trek to Phakding which takes about 4 hours.
After having breakfast in the morning, the next day journey will begin from Phakding. You will have to walk for about 6 to 7 hours to reach to Namche Bazaar having an altitude of 3440m. You will have lunch and dinner as per the schedule.
The next day will be a full day in Namche. You will have a acclimatization trek to Everest view lodge from where fascinating view of Everest and other mountain can be seen. After enjoying the view you will return back to Namche Bazaar.
After having a day in Namche you will have to walk for about 6 to 7 hours to go to Tengboche. At Tengboche you can visit Tengboche Monastery. You will be having overnight in one of the lodges here.
Enjoying the mesmerizing view of nature, you will have to walk about 5 hours to reach Dingbuche with an altitude of 4350m. After the few walk you will be staying here over night.
You will have acclimatization and rest day at Dingbuche.
You will need to fly to Makalu base camp by helicopter from Dingbuche. You will be camping in the base camp.
At the Makalu BC you will set your camps where you will be spending most of your upcoming days. You will have an interaction program with the expedition’s staffs.
Puja will be done at the base camp before starting the refreshment course which will be held on the way.
On the 13th day, you will be starting the refreshment course to use the gears by IFMGA Certified Guide and Climbing Sherpa.
From the 14th day you will be preparing and practicing to climb Mt. Makalu. You will need to get prepared climb within these 28 days period. On the 42nd day your summit to Makalu BC will end.
After the successful climb, you will have another day at Makalu base camp. This day we will be cleaning the camp side area and final packing of equipment will be done.
The next day, you will need to trek to Yangle Kharka which takes about 7 hours. *You can fly by Helicopter to Tumlingtar or Kathmandu on request.
You will have to walk for about 7 hours to reach Khongma from Yangle Kharka. You will have night over at Khongma.
The next day you will need to trek to Sheduwa from Khongma that takes about 6-7 hours.
After having breakfast you will need to trek to Num from Sheduwa and then drive to Khandbari by Jeep/bus. You will have overnight there.
After the breakfast you will have to drive to Tumlingtar airport which takes about 20 minutes. From the airport you will need to take flight to Kathmandu that takes about 35 minutes. You will be taken to the hotel where you can take rest.
You will have a full day rest in Kathmandu. You can visit the local markets and get souvenirs for your loved ones from Nepal. You will have a debriefing in Nepal Tourism Board the same day to conclude your expedition.
The last day, you will be dropped to the Tribhuwan airport by our office representative or your guide.
